Get Closer!

Published by gafphoto at 10:45 pm under Quick and Easy Techniques

In case the title of this post didn’t give it away one of the easiest ways to improve the look of your photos is to zoom in and fill the frame with your subject.

A nice tight crop for a portrait.

In this shot I filled the frame with this little girls face, this makes the image a lot more interesting than if I would have just had her in the middle of the frame surrounded by blank space or a cluttered background. For the rest of this tutorial.

Now I don’t want to hear any excuses like ” my camera doesn’t zoom enough!” or “I need more lens!” You already have a free built in zoom or lens extension, Look Down it’s your feet just take a couple steps towards your subject and really fill the frame. This technique is not just for portraits it works great for flower photography too.

Just remember this technique the next time you are shooting and see how much impact you can add to your photos, and if you have a macro function with a super short focusing distance you can even get into some abstract type photos of everyday objects. Please let me know what you think of this tutorial and don’t forget to check back often as we are constantly writing new tutorials and adding new content.
